The New Baden General Store New Baden, Texas

The New Baden General Store!

3550 Main Street

New Baden, TX

This is me by the sign out side the the New Baden General Store!

When you drive by on Highway 79, your first thoughts, if you happen to see the store, is that this is just an old run down Texas Country General Store. Well, we have a HUGE SURPRISE FOR YOU!

Me and Mr. Sanders standing by the Famous Fish Buffet!

In Texas on Fridays, we have a tradition. We like our Fish! We like our Fish on a Buffet Style even better!

The New Baden General Store is without question one of the Best Kept Secrets in Central Texas. If you are traveling down Highway 79 on any given Friday and the hunger pains attack you, just look for New Baden. You will not be disappointed!

There is a menu but on Fridays, very few look at it. The Fish Buffett is constantly replenished with the Best Fried Fish, Pinto Beans, Fries, Hush Puppies and Cold Slaw. Sam is even guilty of getting a bowl full of Pinto Beans and crumbling up some Hush Puppies and eating them for dessert!

The New Baden General Store opened between 1882 and 1884, depends on who you talk to.

Obviously the New Baden General Store has been very popular for a long time.

At one time they even had their one Tokens (money)!

The New Baden General Store Store is still operating in 2003 as a grocery store (selling locally grown fresh produce), meat market, deli counter, hamburger and short-order grill (with several tables for seating), feed store, hardware store, & gas station. Operated for years as “Mrs. E. Schultz & Son”, the store was run by the Schultz family for many, many years.  The original building is a one-story structure with rolled tin canopy and brick parapet.

The inside was a little different than today for sure!

Even transportation to and from the New Baden General Store has changed somewhat but they still come!

The New Baden General Store is Definitely one of those Best Kept Secrets in Texas!
